South of France, 1879. Ferdinand Cheval is a reserved and quiet man. A rural mail carrier, he enjoys the loneliness of his 20 miles rounds, daydreaming about a world full of wonder and beauty he only glances through postcards and magazines. After the birth of Alice his daughter, he has a revelation: building a castle to make her a princess. Sébastien, 7 years old, worships his mother (Emmanuelle Béart) – in his dreams, she is a queen. He pays little attention to his father (Jacques Gamblin), a failed inventor who’s never around.
When a new neighbour, Philippe (Stefano Accorsi), moves in next door, Sébastien is sure to have discovered his mother’s prince charming. He now has a mission: unite his mother with her prince.
